Fleur de Lis at the Louisiana Govenor's Mansion
Article in The Advocate newspaper
August 14, 2011Comments are by the first lady Supriya Jindal, who chooses all the artwork in the Govenor's Mansion.
... "We like to show work by well-known artists in Louisiana, but we also like to show work by artists who aren't as well-known," Jindal said. "We also like to show work by local artists to give them recognition." Two such pieces can be found in the drawing room and foyer. They're by New Roads artist Josephine Busse. The fleur de lis dominates Busse's canvases, which are filled with vivid blues and purples resembling south Louisiana marshland landscapes. The fleur de lis symbols are painted in a different texture, making them appear in another dimension on the canvas. "I just love these," Jindal said. "I especially love her use of the fleur de lis." ...

Serving the Children, Artists Unite
Wooden serving tray displayed in Tsunami restaurant. Auction held at the Governor's Mansion, benefiting OLOL Children's Hospital.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
May 12, 2011"Being invited to participate as one of 30 artists in the 2011 'service' tray benefit for the OLOL Children's Hospital, was quite an honor. We were first given round trays that warped, but the creative process within my mind had already begun. Adapting the circle to the new square format, was imperative. Thus my legend of this image...
The Fleur de Lis..... the God in us, that this symbol so aptly represents, However all different, as each template is.
The Circle.....the circle of life and our connection to all humanity, unending.
Colors.....The Crayola spectrum of primary colors , so loved by children. So imagine, coming from the darkness of an illness{ brown}, through the loving care of the Children's Hospital, combined with God's light {orange} into the heart of the universe,{white}, where we are all connected.
Complete this Spirit filled creation with the words of the song ...
'... Everything is beautiful, in it's own way, ... Jesus loves the little children of the world.'"
